Dr Kieron Lim is a senior consultant specialising in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has experience in caring for patients with conditions related to the oesophagus, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
Prior to setting up his specialist clinic at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Dr Lim was Head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in NUH, and Medical Director for liver transplantation at the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation. Dr Lim is currently a visiting consultant at NUH where he continues to be involved in postgraduate education and training of future specialists.

You should see a gastroenterologist if you have any symptoms of a digestive health disorder or if you need a colon cancer screening. Often, seeing a gastroenterologist leads to more accurate detection of polyps and cancer, fewer complications from procedures and less time spent in the hospital.
A gastroscopy allows the physician to detect problems in the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. These include peptic ulcers, gastritis, hiatus hernia, esophagitis and cancers. An added benefit is that in almost all cases, if any abnormality is found it can be either removed or biopsy performed at the time of the procedure eliminating the need for an additional test.
A colonoscopy can detect polyps, colitis, diverticulosis, haemorrhoids and cancer. Most importantly, it also allows for intervention and removal of colon polyps.
Depending on the diagnosis made after detailed consultation and relevant investigations, customized treatment plans will be recommended for each patient.
Treatment options include modification in lifestyle and diet, proton pump inhibitors to reduce gastric acid levels and heal mucosal inflammation in the stomach and esophagus and medications to regulate bowel habits and other gastrointestinal disorders. In more some cases, surgery may be required to treat the underlying cause. By using a variety of screening tests, it is possible to prevent, detect, and treat the disease long before symptoms appear.
